In the direct emitters section of the Data Publication Tool FLIGHT you will note that there are 9 industry groupings listed across the bottom of the page. This data dashboard allows you to select and deselect what facility types you wish to view in the map interface and explore using our analytical tools. Note that for some industry groupings, you can further divide industry groupings into unique types by selecting and deselecting the check boxes that appear when you hover over the gear icon.

In the Greenhouse Gas Reporting Program, facilities reported direct emissions from 24 32 different facility level processes in 20102011. For a table that shows how these 24 difference 32 different processes are mapped to the 9 industry groupings in our tool, visit the Who Reports? section.

You will also notice that there are several industry subclasses listed in our data set that do not match any of the 24 32 specific GHG emissions processes listed in the regulation. All of these facilities which appear in groupings such as "Government and Commercial" and "Metals - Other Metals" only reported greenhouse gas emissions associated with the combustion of fossil fuels in 2010 and 2011. Some of these facilities such as "Oil Petroleum and Natural Gas Systems" will report reported emissions from other processes for the first time in 2011. EPA decided to classify these facilities into industry groups based on their North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) code. All facilities were required to report this code to EPA. The table below shows which NAICS codes were mapped to each of these industry groupings. Note that in the table numbers shown as "X" can be any number.

You will also notice that there are several industry subclasses listed in our data set that do not match any of the 43 specific GHG emissions processes listed in the regulation. All of these facilities which appear in groupings such as "Other - Food Processing" and "Metals - Other Metals" only reported greenhouse gas emissions associated with the combustion of fossil fuels in 2010 and 2011. For the small number of facilites that report emissions from stationary fuel combustion and at least one other subpart where stationary fuel combustion is the highest ranked source on the above list, emissions from stationary combustion are attributed to a source category based on its NAICS code (ethanol plant, food processor, etc).
