How do I find the largest emitter in my state?


This page provides step-by-step instructions for finding the largest emitter in a particular state.

Step 1. Go to the Data Publishing Tool

When you first enter the Data Publishing tool, you will be presented with three search options:

  1. View all U.S. Facility Data
  2. View Facilities in your State
  3. Create a Custom Search

Step 2. Select a state

Use the "View Facilities in your State" search option to choose a state from the drop-down menu.

Step 3. Switch from Map View to List view (by facility)

Click the "List" button and the "Facility" button above the map window.

Step 4. Sort the list by Total Reported Emissions from highest to lowest

Click the "Total Reported Emissions (kMT CO2e)" column header once to sort the list from lowest to highest, then click a second time to sort from highest to lowest.

Step 5. Identify the largest emitter

The facility at the top of list is the largest emitter in the selected state.

To view addition details for this facility, search the name of the facility using the search bar at the top of the filter sidebar at the left of the screen, then click on the facility in the listing below.
