Q745. A portion of my landfill is covered with a geomembrane, but e-GGRT does not include that as a choice when asking about the type of cover material used. What should I select? Are there definitions for the types of cover materials?
A745. e-GGRT allows the reporter to select one of the following options for the type of cover material used: organic cover, clay cover, sand cover, or other soil mixture. The reporter should select the type of cover material (organic, clay, sand, or other soil mixture) that is placed over the geomembrane. 40 CFR Part 98 does not have specific definitions for these soil cover types. Indicate the soil cover type based on your best judgment and readily available information. Some examples of soil cover types are provided below:
Organic cover: mulch, compost, wood chips
Sand cover: soil that primarily consists of sand
Clay cover: soil that primarily consists of clay
Other mixtures: loam, sandy loam, sand with clay, sandy clay loam.
