Q255. What is XML?

A255. The Extensible Markup Language (XML) is a simple text-based format for representing structured information that is widely used for transferring data. e-GGRT accepts XML-based submissions for some subparts as an alternative to manual data entry using webforms. XML files submitted to e-GGRT must conform to the current GHGRP XML schema. The GHGRP XML schema define expected data elements and attributes, allowable data formats for each data element and the hierarchical structure and sequence in which the data elements must appear in the XML file. To help reporters prepare XML submissions, the EPA publishes instructions and XSD files showing the current XML schema. For a list of subparts for which EPA  supports XML reporting, copies of the GHG XML schema, and instructions on how to prepare XML reports, please refer to http://www.ccdsupport.com/confluence/display/help/XML+Reporting+Instructions. For more information about XML, visit the World Wide Web Consortium at http://www.w3c.org.
