Q672. How many samples or test results are required if a facility is using a 60-day anaerobic biodegradation test to determine if their industrial waste landfill is exempt from reporting GHG emissions under §98.460(c)(2)(xiii)?

A672. One 60-day anaerobic biodegradation test may be used to determine if a waste stream is inert and therefore the landfill is exempted from reporting under §98.460(c)(2)(xiii).  A minimum of one representative sample must be taken from the selected waste stream for the anaerobic biodegradation test.  Please note, while only one representative sample must be taken from each waste stream to be tested, the anaerobic biodegradation test must be performed according to the steps described in §98.464(b)(i), which requires multiple waste samples to be tested.  Therefore, if only one representative sample is taken from a waste stream, the sample taken must be of sufficient size to be subdivided and tested according to the requirements in §98.464(b)(i).
