Q637. What should I do if my facility ceased operations?

A637: If your facility ceased operations, you must notify EPA of the cessation by March 31 of the year following such cessation as required by §98.2(i)(3). For example, if your facility ceased to operate in 2012, you must notify EPA by March 31, 2013. To notify EPA, log onto e-GGRT, click the Reporting Tab, select the year during which operations ceased, and select your facility. You will be presented with the following Facility Overview page (below). On the Facility Overview page, select the first check box under Notification to Discontinue to indicate that your facility ceased operations in that year.

If you notified EPA of the cessation of operations via hard copy before the e-GGRT notification module was available, you have no further reporting obligation for this facility under 40 CFR part 98. However, you may voluntarily confirm that your facility has ceased operations in e-GGRT using the instructions above.

Please note that §98.2(i)(3) does not apply to municipal solid waste landfills, industrial waste landfills, or underground coal mines.
