Oil and Gas Well Completions and Workovers with Hydraulic Fracturing

This page provides an overview of the Subpart W reporting requirements for the oil and gas well completions and workovers with hydraulic fracturing source type.

Please see the Reporting Form Instructions on downloading the blank reporting form and uploading the completed reporting form.

You may also refer to Optional Calculation Spreadsheet Instructions to download the Subpart W calculation spreadsheet.

The well completions and workovers with hydraulic fracturing source type is applicable to onshore petroleum and natural gas production facilities [98.230(a)(2)].

Indicate if the facility has the source type via the radio buttons.

If the source type is present you must report the required elements:

If the facility has the source type, then indicate whether missing data procedures were used.

Reporting Requirements
(Note: well-specific information for well completion and workovers with hydraulic fracturing must be reported in Table AA.1.iii)

Table G.1 Well Completions with Hydraulic Fracturing must be completed for well completions with hydraulic fracturing for each sub-basin. The two tables are identical except for reference to completions in G.1 and to workovers in G.2:

  • Sub-basin ID [98.236(g)(1)] - the pick list for this data element is populated based on the (aa)(1) Onshore Production Tab.
  • Well type combination
    • Well Type: Horizontal or vertical? (98.236(g)(2))
    • Is gas flared or vented? (98.236(g)(2))
    • Reduced emission completion (98.236(g)(2))

Note: The total number of completions for the well type combination and the equation used must match the count of wells for the same well type combination and equation in Table AA.1.iii “Onshore petroleum and natural production: Well Characterization” of the (aa)(1) Onshore Production Tab.
  • When using Equation W-10A:

    • Are the only wells in the sub-basin wildcat or delineation wells subject to a 2-year delay in reporting? (98.236(g)(5)(i) & 98.236(g)(5)(ii))
    • Cumulative gas flowback time from all wells during completions from when gas is first detected until sufficient quantities are present to enable separation, Sum of Tp,i values (hours) (98.236(g)(5)(i))
    • Cumulative gas flowback time from all wells during completions after sufficient quantities of gas are present to enable separation, Sum of Tp,s values (hours)   (98.236(g)(5)(i))
  • Annual gas emissions (standard cubic feet) (98.236(g)(7))
  • Annual total CO2 emissions (mt CO2) (98.236(g)(8))

    • Oil well or gas well? (98.236(g)(2))
  • Total count of workovers in the calendar year for the well type combination [98.236(g)(3)]

  • Select the equation used to calculate emissions from gas well workovers with hydraulic fracturing (Eq. W-10A or Equation W-10B) (98.236(g)(4))
Note: The total number of workovers for the well type combination and the equation used must match the count of wells for the same well type combination and equation in Table AA.1.iii “Onshore petroleum and natural production: Well Characterization” of the (aa)(1) Onshore Production Tab.
  • When using Equation W-10A:
