Gas Well Completions and Workovers without Hydraulic Fracturing

This page provides an overview of the Subpart W reporting requirements for the gas well completions and workovers without hydraulic fracturing source type.

Please see Reporting Form Instructions on downloading the blank reporting form and uploading the completed reporting form.
You may also refer to Optional Calculation Spreadsheet Instructions to download the Subpart W calculation spreadsheet.

The well completions and workovers without hydraulic fracturing source type is applicable to the Onshore petroleum and natural gas production industry segment [98.230(a)(2)].

Indicate if the facility has the source type via the radio buttons.

If the source type is present you must report required elements.

If the facility has the source type, then indicate whether missing data procedures were used.

Reporting Requirements

Emissions of gas well completions and workovers without hydraulic fracturing are reported in three tables: gas well completions without flaring (H.1), gas well completions with flaring (H.2), and gas well workovers (H.3)

Table H.1 Gas well completions without hydraulic fracturing (without flaring) must be completed for gas well completions that vented directly to the atmosphere without hydraulic fracturing [98.236(h)(1)]:

  • Sub-basin ID - the pick list for this data element is populated based on the (aa)(1) Onshore Production Tab. Be sure a valid Sub-basin ID is used.
  • Total count of completions that vented directly to the atmosphere without flaring (98.236(h)(1)(ii))
  • Total number of hours that gas vented directly to atmosphere (hours) ((98.236(h)(1)(iii))
  • Average daily gas production rate
    • Are the only wells in the sub-basin used to calculate "Average daily gas production rate", wildcat or delineation wells subject to a 2-year delay in reporting? (98.236(h)(1)(iv))
    • If no, Average daily gas production rate (standard cubic feet/hour) (98.236(h)(1)(iv))
  • Annual total CO2 emissions that resulted from venting gas directly to the atmosphere for completions (mt CO2) (98.236(h)(1)(v))
  • Annual total CH4 emissions that resulted from venting gas directly to the atmosphere for completions (mt CH4) (98.236(h)(1)(vi))

  • Average daily production rate
    •  Are the only wells in the sub-basin wildcat or delineation wells subject to a 2-year delay in reporting? [98.236(h)(2)(iv)]

    • Average daily gas production rate (standard cubic feet/hour) [98.236(h)(2)(iv)]

  • Annual total CO2 emissions that resulted from flares for completions (mt CO2) [98.236(h)(2)(v)]

Complete the following table for gas well workovers without hydraulic fracturing:

  • Sub-Basin ID [98.236(h)(3)(i)], [98.236(h)(4)(i)] - the pick list for this data element is populated based on the (aa)(1) Onshore Production Tab. Be sure a valid Sub-basin ID is used.

  • Did the facility have gas well workovers without flaring within each sub-basin category? [98.236(h)(3)], [98.236(h)(4)]

  • Workovers that vented directly to the atmosphere
    • Total count of workovers that vented directly to atmosphere without flaring [98.236(h)(3)(ii)]

    • Annual total CO2 emissions that resulted from venting gas directly to the atmosphere for workovers (mt CO2) [98.236(h)(3)(iii)]

Table H.4 Missing data procedures used for Gas Well Completion and Workover emission calculations

If your facilities relied on missing data procedures to develop  data elements used in calculating Gas Well Completions and Workovers without Hydraulic Fracturing emissions, please report the following:

  • Sub-Basin ID [98.236(h)] - the pick list for this data element is populated based on the (aa)(1) Onshore Production Tab. Be sure a valid Sub-basin ID is used.

  • Completion or Workover?

  • Flaring?

  • Parameters

    • Gas Well Completions without Hydraulic Fracturing (without flaring) if reporting in Table H.1

    • Gas Well Completions without Hydraulic Fracturing (with flaring) if report in Table H.2

    • Gas Well Workovers without Hydraulic Fracturing if reporting in Table H.3

Table H.5. Delayed RY2015 Data for Well Completions and Workovers without Hydraulic Fracturing (for delays claimed in RY2015) should be completed if data reporting were delayed in 2015 due to reliance solely on wildcat or delineation well properties. Required data elements include:

  • Sub-basin ID
  • Average daily gas rate for gas well completions without hydraulic fracturing and without flaring (Avg of all Vp, Eq. W-13 B) [98.236(h)(1)(iv)]
  • Average daily gas production rate for gas well completions without hydraulic fracturing and with flaring (Ave of all Vp, Eq. W-13B) [98.236(h)(2)(iv)]

Well–Specific Information - In addition to completing Tables H.1 – H.5, as appropriate, complete Table AA.1.iii with well-specific activity data for each completion and workover without hydraulic fracturing (Tab (aa)(1) Onshore Production in the Smart Form) - see Onshore Production Facility Level Requirements.

Total Emissions

The total emissions roll-up at the top of the sheet reflects the sum of each gas emission reported for the source type. These summations are calculated automatically by the Smart Form and tabulated on the Introduction tab.
