Associated Natural Gas Venting and Flaring

This page provides an overview of the Subpart W reporting requirements for the associated gas venting and flaring source type.

Please see Reporting Form Instructions on downloading the blank reporting form and uploading the completed reporting form.
You may also refer to Optional Calculation Spreadsheet Instructions to download the Subpart W calculation spreadsheet.

This page provides an overview of the Subpart W associated gas venting and flaring source category e-GGRT reporting requirements.

The associated gas venting and flaring source type is applicable to Onshore petroleum and natural gas production facilities (98.230(a)(2)).

Indicate if the facility has the source type via the radio buttons.

If the source type is present you must report required elements.

If the facility has the source type, then indicate whether missing data procedures were used.

Reporting Requirements

Table M.1 Associated Gas Venting and Flaring

  • Sub-Basin ID [98.236(m)(1)] - the pick list for this data element is populated based on the (aa)(1) Onshore Production Tab. Be sure a valid Sub-basin ID is used.
  • Was the associated natural gas vented or flared? [98.236(m)(2)], [98.236(m)(3)]
  • Average gas to oil ratio for the Sub-Basin, Average of GOR (standard cubic feet of gas per barrel of oil) [98.236(m)(4)]
  • Are the only wells in the sub-basin used to determine "volume of oil produced" or "volume of associated gas sent to sales" wildcat or delineation wells subject to a 2-year delay in reporting?[98.236(m)(5)], [98.236(m)(6)]
  • Volume of oil produced during venting/flaring, Sum of Vp,(barrels) [98.236(m)(5)]
  • Volume of associated gas sent to sales, Sum of SG (standard cubic feet) [98.236(m)(6)]
  • Venting Emissions
    • Number of wells venting associated gas [98.236(m)(7)(i)]
    • Annual CO2 emissions from venting (mt CO2) [98.236(m)(7)(ii)]
    • Annual CH4 emissions from venting (mt CH4) [98.236(m)(7)(iii)]
  • Flaring Emissions
    • Number of wells flaring associated gas [98.236(m)(8)(i)]
    • Annual CO2 emissions from flaring (mt CO2) [98.236(m)(8)(ii)]
    • Annual CH4 emissions from flaring (mt CH4) [98.236(m)(8)(iii)]
    • Annual N2O emissions from flaring (mt N2O) [98.236(m)(8)(iv)]

Table M.2 Missing data procedures used for Associated Gas Venting and Flaring emission calculations

If your facility relied on missing data procedures to develop data elements for calculating emissions for Associated Natural Gas Venting and Flaring, please report the following:

  • Sub-basin ID

  • Parameters

  • Measurement Frequency
  • Number of quarters missing data procedures were used [98.236(bb)(1)] (required only if the measurement frequency was quarterly)

  • Total number of hours in the year missing data procedure was used [98.3(c)(8)], [98.236(bb)(2)] (required unless the measurement frequency was quarterly, annually, biannually, or N/A)
  • Procedures used to determine missing data [98.235(h)]

Table M.3 Delayed RY2015 Data for Well Testing (for delays claimed in RY2015) should be completed if data reporting were delayed in 2015 due to reliance solely on wildcat or delineation well properties. Required data elements include:

  • Sub-Basin ID [98.236(m)(1)]
  • Volume of oil produced during venting/flaring (barrels) [98.236(m)(5)]
  • Volume of associated gas sent to sales (standard cubic feet) 98.236(m)(6)]
  • Well ID Number(s) [98.236(m)(5) and (6)]

Well-Specific Information - In addition to completing Tables M.1 - M.3, as appropriate, complete Table AA.iii with well-specific activity data for each well with associated gas emissions (Tab (aa)(1) Onshore Production in the Smart Form) - see Onshore Production Facility Level Requirements

Total Emissions

The total emissions roll-up at the top of the sheet reflects the sum of each gas emission reported for the source type. These summations are calculated automatically by the Smart Form and tabulated on the Introduction tab.
