Natural Gas Driven Pneumatic Pumps
This page provides an overview of the natural gas driven pneumatic pumps source type reporting requirements for Subpart W.

The natural gas driven pneumatic pumps source type is applicable to Onshore petroleum and natural gas production (98.236(a)(2)) and Onshore petroleum and natural gas gathering and boosting (98.236(a)(9)) facilities.
Indicate if the facility has the source type via the dropdown menu.
If the source type is present, you must report required elements.

If the facility has the source type, then indicate whether missing data procedures were used.

Table C.1 NG Driven Pneumatic Pumps 
Facilities that have any natural gas driven pneumatic pumps subject to reporting under 98.232 must report the following data elements:

• Total Count of Natural Gas Driven Pneumatic Pumps [98.236(c)(2)(i)] 

• Total Number of Natural Gas Driven Pumps Vented Directly to the Atmosphere [98.236(c)(2)(ii)]

Facilities that use Calculation Method 1 when calculating emissions from natural gas driven pneumatic pumps, and use a continuous flow meter to measure emissions, are required to report the following data elements:

• Measurement Location ID Number [98.236(c)(3)(i)]     

• Flow Monitor Type [98.236(c)(3)(ii)]

• Number of Natural Gas Driven Pneumatic Pumps Downstream of Flow Monitor [98.236(c)(3)(iii)]

• Are Any Natural Gas Driven Pneumatic Devices Downstream of the Flow Monitor? [98.236(c)(3)(iv)]

• Annual CO₂ Emissions Using Calculation Method 1 (mt CO₂) [98.236(c)(3)(v)]

• Annual CH₄ Emissions Using Calculation Method 1 (mt CH₄) [98.236(c)(3)(vi)]

Facilities that use Calculation Method 2 when calculating emissions from natural gas driven pneumatic pumps, and measure vented emissions, are required to report the following data elements:

• Number of Natural Gas Driven Pneumatic Pumps [98.236(c)(4)(ii)]

• Were All Emissions from Pneumatic Pumps Measured During the Reporting Year or Were Some Measured and Some Calculated Using Equation W-2B? [98.236(c)(4)(iii)]

• Primary Measurement Method [98.236(c)(4)(iv)]

• Annual CO2 Emissions Which Were Directly Measured and Calculated as Specified in §98.233(c)(2)(ii) through (vi) (mt CO2) [98.236(c)(4)(vi)]

• Annual CH4 Emissions Which Were Directly Measured and Calculated as Specified in §98.233(c)(2)(ii) through (vi) (mt CH4) [98.236(c)(4)(vii)]

• Annual CO2 Emissions Using Equation W-2B (Emissions Which Were Not Measured) (mt CO2) [98.236(c)(4)(viii)]. Enter 0 if emissions from all natural gas driven pneumatic pumps at this facility were measured during the reporting year.

• Annual CH4 Emissions Using Equation W-2B (Emission Which Were Not Measured) (mt CH4) [98.236(c)(4)(ix)]. Enter 0 if emissions from all natural gas driven pneumatic pumps at this facility were measured during the reporting year.

Facilities that use Calculation Method 2 to calculate emissions from natural gas driven pneumatic pumps by measuring vented emissions from some pumps and developing a facility-specific emission factor to calculate emissions from other pumps are required to report the following additional data elements in addition to the elements listed above:

• Emission Factor for the Reporting Year from Equation W-2A (scf/hr/pump) [98.236(c)(4)(v)(A)]

• Total Number of Pumps Across All Years Upon Which the Emission Factor is Based, Count_y [98.236(c)(4)(v)(B)]

• Total Number of Pumps that Vent Directly to the Atmosphere and Were Not Directly Measured According to 98.233(c)(1) or 98.233(c)(2)(iii), Count [98.236(c)(4)(v)(C)]

• Average Estimated Number of Hours the Pumps Were Pumping Liquid, T [98.236(c)(4)(v)(D)]

• Annual CO2 Emissions Using Equation W-2B (Emissions Which Were Not Measured) (mt CO2) [98.236(c)(4)(viii)]

Total Emissions

The total emissions roll-up at the top of the sheet reflects the sum of each gas emission reported for the source type. These summations are calculated automatically by the Smart Form and tabulated on the Introduction tab.
