Using Subpart S Calculation Spreadsheets
Note: The Cal e-GGRT help system includes general instruction on using the California GHG reporting tool. However, the help system may not explain differences between California and U.S. EPA reporting requirements. Understanding the Subpart S Calculation Spreadsheets

Subpart S requires a facility to report annual CO2 process emissions from lime production for all kilns. To calculate these emissions, users must use the four equations displayed below:

(Equation S-1)

(Equation S-2)

(Equation S-3)

(Equation S-4)

Equations S-1, S-2 and S-3 calculate results that are subsequently used in Equation S-4. Separate spreadsheets exist for each equation. To calculate the total annual CO2 process emissions using the spreadsheets, all four spreadsheets should be downloaded.

Data flow

Users should first complete calculations using the S-1, S-2 and S-3 Spreadsheets and then enter the results of each calculation into the S-4 Spreadsheet to calculate the total annual CO2 process emissions from lime production for all kilns.

Using the S-1 Calculation Spreadsheet

Use the S-1 Calculation Spreadsheet to calculate the monthly emission factors for a lime type. A separate spreadsheet is to be used for each lime type produced. The S-1 Spreadsheet performs the calculation using Equation S-1, provided below.

(Equation S-1)

Begin by entering the facility name, your name, the lime type description, the reporting year and any additional comments in the green input cells of the General Information table located immediately below the equation in the spreadsheet. This is for your records.

Next, enter the requested information in the green input cells in the table titled S-1 Input Data.

The spreadsheet will calculate the monthly emission factors for a given lime type. These calculated values will be displayed in the red-bordered cells in the S-1 Results table at the bottom of the spreadsheet. These values should be entered in the S-4 Spreadsheet for each lime type to calculate annual CO2 process emissions from lime production for all kilns. When completed, each lime product produced at the lime facility must have an S-1 Spreadsheet.

Using the S-2 Calculation Spreadsheet

Use the S-2 Calculation Spreadsheet to calculate the monthly emission factors for a calcined-lime byproduct or waste type that is sold. A separate spreadsheet is to be used for each byproduct or waste type sold. The S-2 Spreadsheet performs the calculation using Equation S-2, provided below.

(Equation S-2)

Begin by entering the facility name, your name, the byproduct/waste type description, the reporting period, and any additional comments in the green input cells of the General Information table located immediately below the equation in the spreadsheet. This is for your records.

Next, enter the requested information in the green input cells in the table titled S-2 Input Data.

The spreadsheet will calculate the monthly emission factors for a given calcined-lime byproduct or waste type that is sold. These calculated values will be displayed in the red-bordered cells in the S-2 Results table at the bottom of the spreadsheet. These values should be entered in the S-4 Spreadsheet for each byproduct or waste type sold to calculate annual CO2 process emissions from lime production for all kilns. When completed, each lime byproduct or waste that is sold by the lime facility must have an S-2 Spreadsheet.

Using the S-3 Calculation Spreadsheet

Use the S-3 Calculation Spreadsheet to calculate the annual CO2 emissions for a calcined-lime byproduct or waste type that is not sold. A separate spreadsheet is to be used for each byproduct or waste type that is not sold. The S-3 Spreadsheet performs the calculation using Equation S-3, provided below.

(Equation S-3)

Begin by entering the facility name, your name, the byproduct/waste type description, the reporting period, and any additional comments in the green input cells of the General Information table located immediately below the equation in the spreadsheet. This is for your records.

Next, enter the requested information in the green input cells in the table titled S-3 Input Data.

The spreadsheet will calculate the annual CO2 emissions for a calcined-lime byproduct or waste type that is not sold. This calculated value will be displayed in the red-bordered cell in the S-3 Results table at the bottom of the spreadsheet. This value should be entered in the S-4 spreadsheet for each byproduct or waste type that is not sold to calculate annual CO2 process emissions from lime production for all kilns. When completed, each lime byproduct or waste that is not sold by the lime facility must have an S-3 Spreadsheet.

Using the S-4 Calculation Spreadsheet

Use the S-4 Calculation Spreadsheet to calculate the annual CO2 process emissions from lime production from all kilns. The S-4 Spreadsheet performs the calculation using Equation S-4, provided below.

(Equation S-4)

Begin by entering the facility name, your name, the reporting period, and any additional comments in the green input cells of the General Information table located immediately below the equation in the spreadsheet. This is for your records.

Next, enter the S-1, S-2 and S-3 Results and other requested information in the green input cells of the tables titled S-4 Input Data for Lime Type, S-4 Input Data for Calcined-lime Byproduct or Waste Sold, and S-4 Input Data for Calcined Byproduct or Waste Types that are Not Sold, respectively.

The spreadsheet will calculate the annual CO2 process emissions from lime production from up to 5 lime products, 5 lime byproducts sold, and 5 lime byproducts/wastes not sold. This calculated value will be displayed in the red-bordered cell in the S-4 Results table at the bottom of the spreadsheet. This value should be entered in Cal e-GGRT.

If this lime facility has more than 5 lime products, 5 lime byproducts sold, or 5 lime byproducts/wastes not sold, create multiple copies of the S-4 Spreadsheet so that every lime product, byproduct, or waste at the facility is listed on one of your S-4 Spreadsheets. Add the totals for all S-4 Spreadsheets and enter the total CO2 emissions into Cal e-GGRT. The total annual CO2 process emissions from lime production that you enter into Cal e-GGRT should include emissions from ALL KILNS at the lime facility.
