Methane Challenge User Roles

Methane Challenge has two roles: Implementation Manager and Delegate.

Each Partner can have only one Implementation Manager (IM), but can have an unlimited number of Delegates. The Methane Challenge Help Desk will add Implementation Managers to the reporting system and send invitation code emails to those contacts. Once the IM accepts their role in the reporting system they can in turn add as many Delegates as they need. Delegates can complete all of the same activities in the system as an IM (e.g., register facilities and submit reports) except appointing/deleting Delegates.

Please contact the GHGRP Help Desk.

If a Delegate has left your organization, or should no longer have access to the Partner in the Methane Challenge e-GGRT module, the Implementation Manager can delete them as a Delegate from the Partner Management module. If you need to replace that Delegate with another colleague, the IM can simply add the new colleague as an additional Delegate.

Methane Challenge Facility Questions

While you do not necessarily need to link to the Subpart W-reporting facility if the only emission sources you’ve committed to don’t use Subpart W-reported data, we encourage you to do so to ensure seamless reporting in the future should your company commit to additional sources that do use Subpart W-reported data.

No, please do not link Methane Challenge facilities to GHGRP facilities that do not report to Subpart W but report to other Subparts (e.g., Subpart NN). Linking a Methane Challenge facility to a GHGRP facility will prepopulate and lock all data entry cells on the reporting form that use Subpart W data. If there are no Subpart W data (as in the case where the facility reports to other Subparts, but not Subpart W), these cells will be blank but will still be locked and you will not be able to enter your data.

Facility definitions for the Methane Challenge program can be found in the Methane Challenge Program Technical Documents:

BMP Commitment Option Technical Document, Appendix A –  https://www.epa.gov/natural-gas-star-program/methane-challenge-program-bmp-commitment-option-technical-document

ONE Future Commitment Option Technical Document, Appendix B -- https://www.epa.gov/natural-gas-star-program/methane-challenge-program-one-future-commitment-option-technical-document

In most cases, Methane Challenge uses the same facility definitions as Subpart W. Any exceptions to this are noted in the Technical Documents.

If a Partner has both BMP and ONE Future commitments, there will be separate Methane Challenge Partner records in e-GGRT for each commitment option. On the home screen of the Methane Challenge module in e-GGRT, you’ll be able to see which commitment option applies to which partner in the Partner Summary table.

Applicable facilities must be registered in the Methane Challenge module under both the BMP and ONE Future partners in e-GGRT to allow reporting forms to be submitted for both commitment options. If you have further questions or need help registering these facilities, please contact the Methane Challenge Help Desk .

Methane Challenge Reporting Form Questions

If any corrections are needed to Subpart W data, you must resubmit the data to the GHGRP and then re-download your Methane Challenge forms.

Please email the Methane Challenge Help Desk at GHGreporting@epa.gov if you have any questions.
